Orpington chick growth – week 6

This week I didn’t take Chip’s picture every day. We’ve been putting them outside in their new run outside during daytime, so Chip was either really tired when we took them back inside again and/or bustling with energy trying to run back outside. Though I didn’t really mind, since they’re not growing as fast as they used to anymore. Here’s a couple pics of the whole gang outside: It was here that I realized Nugget and Chip are both probably hens. They both still have their yellow combs, while rooster’s combs should be visible red around this age. One (or two, not quite sure yet) of the white Orpies does…

Orpington chick growth – week 5

In our 5th week of growth, Chip really began to look like a real chicken. At the end of the week, she’s barely got any of her baby-fluff left… I’m kinda sad it’s all gone so soon, but I’m curious to see how the remainder of her growth is going to be. “Nope… I’m not going to sit still! …now where’s that mealworm?” “What’s that over there? Is that a… fly?!” Chip doesn’t seem to change that much from pic to pic… even less than the last couple of weeks. She’s definitely growing though, and losing more and more fluff. It’s especially noticeable comparing the first and last picture. The…

Orpington chick growth – week 4

Time just seems to fly as I write these blogs about our Orpies growth each week. As I look back at the pictures, they grow SO much each week…It’s worth mentioning they also seem to grow in character. No matter how much I try, Chip just seems to be less and less willing to have her picture taken each day. She can’t even be bought with mealworms anymore 🙂 Right at the beginning of the week Chip already was grumpy 🙂 And we have a good day again! She’s really fluffing up around her tail and legs, and really developing more feathering. Her head’s still really fluffy. What can I…

Orpington chick growth – week 3

After two weeks of amazing growth, Chip’s still not done growing… She’s only two weeks old after all, and she’ll have a lot more growing to do! So without further ado, here’s her 3rd week of growth into a fullgrown Orpington chicken… Sadly, I couldn’t make a pic on day 17. On day 19 Chip’s tail was getting really fluffy! She was also feeling like modeling. I wish she’d help us make such a nice picture every day 🙂 “Look at my..tail!” 😉 As much as Chip liked to pose at the last few days, as grumpy she was today. Someone who was complying though, was Snowball – one of…

Orpington chick growth – week 2

Following up on last week’s report, here is the second week of Chip’s growth. This week, she really started to look more like an actual (adult) chicken instead of the round, little fluffball she was just a week ago… It was at this point that Chip developed more of a personality and didn’t really want to pose anymore. Chip’s tail started to grow some feathers as well now! Getting a bit of attitude… 😉 There’s also some feathers growing on the shoulders, right above the wing. On this picture you can really begin to see she’s not as round anymore. She’s got more angles now, especially on her head and…
